40% of women have Dense Breasts. Irish women are not currently told about the Mammographic risks associated with Breast Density.
Up to 50% of small tumours in very dense breast tissue are missed by the standard mammogram.
Supplemental Ultrasound screening and Mri are recommended for women with breast density. Unfortunately in Ireland women are not routinely informed of this.
