New Year resolution regarding your Breast Density

Ladies please have a read of this and share with friends and family.

As we wave goodbye to 2017 it is appropriate for Irish women to continue to share global efforts on Breast Density. With continued patient advocacy efforts, 2018 could ensure that women will be informed of ALL the information in their mammogram report. Get to know your Breast Density level as determined by mammography. Breast density can mask a cancer tumour, therefore you may need to  have an Ultrasound and or MRI.

In 2018 Irish women will increase pressure on our Health Minister, Mr Simon Harris, to introduce #Breastdensity inform protocols as standard.

Exchanging ‘Mammography’ Screening with ‘Breast Cancer’ Screening: No Refunds or Returns for Advanced Disease

I am personally aware that mammography is not an equal opportunity technology for access to an early diagnosis for many women with dense breast tissue. When a woman’s cancer is not detected at an early stage, even after faithfully participating in mammography screening, there are no refunds or returns. The benefits of early detection by mammography have failed these women. They are left with the harms of a later stage diagnosis, aggressive treatment options, quality of life issues and a greater likelihood of dying from breast cancer.
